Montenegrin history


One and a half hour drive inland from the Resort, Cetinje sits on the edge of the impressive
Lovćen National Park, and it is a treat for all culture and history lovers.

Cetinje Monstery
The monastery keeps relics of St. Peter from Cetinje, by whom it got its name. The monestry
also treasures: the hand of Saint John the Baptizer, and a segment of the Honorable Cross,
with which the monastery itself is one of the richest treasuries of the Christian world.

The Museums
Montenegro’s museums are made up of five smaller-scaled museums on an compact
area: National Museum of Montenegro, King Nikola’s Museum, Ethnography Museum,
Biljarda and Monetary Museum. Bustling with historic and cultural artifacts it is where you
will truly understand and feel Montenegrin mentality and legacy.

Njegoš Mousoleum
The highest mausoleum in the world – 1657m above sea level with 461 uphill steps lead
to this magnificent mausoleum, is the place where the greatest poet of Montenegro rests:
Peter II Petrović Njegoš. Inside the lavish mausoleum, you will find a grandiose sculpture
of Njegoš, and the circular viewpoint behind, with views even to the Bay of Kotor on a clear day.
